PENGARUH TINDAKAN PENGHISAPAN LENDIR (SUCTION) TERHADAP PERUBAHAN SATURASI OKSIGEN PADA PASIEN PENURUNAN KESADARAN DI RUANG INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU)

Introduction: Decreased consciousness or coma is an indication of failure of the functioning of the integrity of the brain and as the "final common pathway" of organ failure such as heart, respiratory and circulatory failure leading to brain failure with consequent death. Suction is an action or process of inhaling the airways performed on a patient with excess sputum production which the patient is unable to do on his own. Suction is often performed on critically ill patients who are in intensive care, especially in patients with an endotracheal tube (ETT).
Method: The design used in this study is literature review, the data used are sourced from 10 national and international journals obtained from databased through Google Scholar, research gate, pubmed and science direct with the intervention used is the suction effect on changes in oxygen saturation at the patient is unconscious.
Results and conclusions:Based on the results of the journals collected and the author's analysis, after reviewing ten studies related to suction, the results obtainedshowed an increase in oxygen saturation levels after suction. This is because the freeing of the airway for accumulated secretions makes the transfer of oxygen from the atmosphere into the lungs effective
